# Internet of Fine Gold (IoFG)

> Internet of Fine Gold (IoFG) is the online retail of physical bullion-grade gold in which the buyer acquires a specific, identifiable item — a coin or a bar — and takes possession of it, with the entire transaction (selection, price, payment, tracking, delivery and buyback) completed over the internet.

This site is the reference home of that definition and of the open standard built on it: a five-question test any buyer can put to any seller, and seven criteria that place a gold transaction inside or outside the category.

The definition and the standard are published under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). They may be quoted, translated, adapted and used commercially, with attribution, by anyone — including sellers who compete with the author. No permission is required.

What the category excludes: tokenized gold; vaulted, allocated and fractional gold, including what the industry calls Internet Investment Gold; gold ETFs and gold-linked securities; gold accounts and savings plans; jewellery and numismatic rarities. These are legitimate products that sit outside the definition because the buyer ends up holding a claim rather than an item.
