Licence

The definition and the standard are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Copy them, translate them, adapt them, publish them commercially. Credit the source. That is the whole arrangement.

What the licence covers

• The comparison grid and the text of this site generally.

Two things sit outside it, as they do under any Creative Commons licence: trademarks and logos, including the JetGold name and mark, and any third-party material that may be quoted with its own attribution. Reusing the text does not imply that its author endorses you, and you should not suggest otherwise.

How to credit it

Attribution is the only condition. There is no need to ask, no need to notify, and no form to fill in — including for encyclopaedias, industry reports, textbooks, competitors' websites and commercial publications.

Translations

English is the master text, and translations are welcome. One request, which is not a licence condition but a matter of the definition being useful at all: translate the sentence, do not summarise it. A definition that drifts between languages stops being a shared reference and becomes a set of similar opinions.

Why give it away

Because a definition that a company owns is a marketing asset, and a definition anyone may take is closer to a standard. If this one is any good, it should be able to survive being used by people who have no relationship with its author — including by sellers who compete with them. If it is not good enough for that, the licence is not what is wrong with it.

Colophon

Set in EB Garamond, used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and served from this domain rather than from a font network — licence note. The apparatus — tables, labels, footnotes — is set in the reader's own system typeface.

There are no third-party scripts on this site, no analytics code and no cookies. Nothing on these pages is loaded from anyone else's server: not a font, not a tag, not a pixel. The web server that delivers the page counts the request, as every web server does; nothing else about you is collected, and nothing is stored on your device.

That is a condition of the domain rather than an oversight, and it follows from what the site is for. A reference work that asks you to check who wrote it, and to check the seller you are dealing with, is in a poor position to be watching you while you read.
